Process

In April 2024 Tim Cook made his longest tour of Southeast Asia in years. Five days, three countries, meetings with two prime ministers and a president. On his own X account the trip looked different. A photographer at Gardens by the Bay. A concert on the floor of the Apple Store at Marina Bay Sands. An artists' workshop in Vietnam where a team builds whatever they can imagine on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Those posts were the films.

A CEO's personal account plays by rules no brand account does. It has to sound like him, and since he is Apple, that's the brand voice too. Nothing can be staged, and nothing gets a second take. And the post has to go up while the moment is still the moment, before the wires run the official version of the day. Every film had one pass at the event and one hour after it.

The approach was to make each stop about the person he was meeting. Yik Keat's eye on a place Singaporeans stopped looking at years ago, through the lens of his own iPhone 15 Pro Max. Benjamin Kheng and Evan Low turning a store into a gig. Phuong Vu and his crew at Nirvana Space. Tim is the visitor in his own posts, which is the only way an executive account ever reads like a person's.

Each film was planned ahead of the stop from what was known of the itinerary, then reworked on the day around what actually happened. Every one was shot inside the visit by a small crew moving with him, cut in the hour after he left the venue, cleared by Executive PR and Comms, and approved by Tim himself before it posted. Five films across three countries, none of them late.

Five posts from the road, each one live while the visit was still news.
